1960s Silvertone 1448 and Amp/Case

In the Keith Urban guitar review, I mentioned the Sears Silvertone guitar. That led me to search eBay for some of those vintage classics and I found several. One of the best specimens was the one pictured here. Sears Roebuck & Co. sold Silvertone guitars from around 1960 to 1968. The were likely built for the company by Danelectro, evident by the materials and design of the guitars.  The 1448 featured a hollow Masonite body. Masonite was a pressed wood composite like that which was used to make kitchen countertops back in the day. It's essentially wood chips and glue. The top and back was glued on to a poplar rim. The body was finished in metalflake black on the top and back and the contrasting white sides were covered with a textured synthetic material that remids me of the Tolex used on amps or maybe even a textured shelf liner.  The short-scale neck provided a scale length of only 23 5/8 inches. That's even shorter than a Fender Jaguar! The neck was also made from poplar
